Velvet Horehound

Velvet Horehound (Marrubium cylleneum 'Velvetissimum') spreads across limestone hills of southern Albania and Greece, his compact silver form shaped by drought, wind, and intense light. His densely woolly leaves shimmer like brushed velvet, reflecting heat and conserving moisture. Unlike the more bitter medicinal horehounds, this form turns toward structure and texture, forming low mounds that stabilize dry soils and support pollinators. In him, identity rests in surface and resilience, a self where softness and defense coexist through form.
