Maize

Maize (Zea mays) is the sole domesticated voice of the genus Zea, and one of the most influential plants in human history. Originating from teosinte ancestors in Mesoamerica, he was shaped through sustained human selection into a system of yield, adaptability, and scale. His chemistry is simple and focused, dominated by starch, storage proteins, lipids, and carotenoids. His strength lies not in pharmacological complexity, but in energy, transformability, and abundance. Today, he feeds billions and sustains global systems of food, feed, and industry. In him, identity extends beyond the organism into culture, economy, and landscape. He has become more than a plant. He now is a structure of dependence: a cultivated self whose coherence lies in his integration with human life.
