Green Santolina
Green Santolina (Santolina viridis) is a quietly aromatic shrub native to the dry hills and coastal scrublands of the western Mediterranean. His finely divided leaves release a sharp, clean scent when brushed, reminiscent of herbs and citrus. His flowers are small, yellow, and understated, rising lightly above his foliage. He thrives in poor soils and full sun, shaped by wind and drought into a form that is both ornamental and practical. In traditional gardens, he was planted as a low hedge or knotwork border, valued for his neatness and ability to repel insects. His essential oils were used in sachets and remedies for minor ailments. In him, identity orders and protects, a self that shapes space through clarity, structure, and quiet persistence.
